Paul and I started our brewing journey together on the PicoBrew Zymatic in 2018. I had inherited the Zymatic from my dad when he passed away, and brewing was a way of keeping his memory close. Paul started working at Sound Homebrew in 2019 to expand our knowledge of the hobby, with the ambition of starting a brewery. When the previous owners proposed a buyout, we agreed this was a less risky and logistically complex option than starting a brewery of our own, so we made a deal and officially took over the shop in January of 2021. Since then we've enjoyed the privilege to serve and be a part of the homebrewers, mead makers, cider makers, winemakers, and other fermenting communities of the greater Seattle area and beyond.

I've been brewing beer since about 2009, but much more regularly since I retired from Boeing in 2019. I’ll occasionally make wine and cider, but beer is my go-to. I currently have a Hazy IPA, Cream Ale, Kolsch, Vienna Lager, Schwarzbier, Belgian Wit, and a pear cider on tap at home (this is after hosting a neighborhood tasting event, so more beer than usual!). I use a Brewzilla all-in-one system in a dedicated brewhouse (“Talon & Trout”), which I built in the back yard.

When not brewing, I enjoy spending time camping and hanging out with my six grandkids (oh, yeah, and their parents too!)

Home-brewer for over four years with a bit of commercial brewing experience, one of my favorite things about any kind of brewing is that no matter how far down the rabbit hole you go, there is always more to learn! I believe in trying out new ideas and most particularly enjoy brewing lagers and saisons. I believe there is always room to explore new ideas and tinker with old ones. The tough part is taking good enough notes to keep track of it all!

I discovered the joy of homebrewing in 2013, but kicked into "beast mode" in 2022 — now I brew at least once a month! I love creating unique beers I can't find in stores or local breweries, like golden ale with Sichuan peppercorn, or rye ale with Amarena cherries. Currently, I'm into historical farmhouse styles like Finnish sahti and keptinis!
