Taught by Roger & Mary Cox, long-time home winemakers

 - Pre-Registration is Required -

For beginner to intermediate winemakers: wine can seem complex and intimidating, but with a little bit of guidance, you can make gallons of delicious wine for yourself and your friends at a fraction of the cost.

Roger and Mary will walk you through each phase of the winemaking process from pressing to bottling. Learn how to tell if your fermentation is healthy, and how to troubleshoot when things go awry.

Pick up a wine kit or pick the fruit from your own back yard! The specific demonstrations offered in this class are local raspberry wine and Nebbiolo wine from a kit.

Class will consist of a lecture, technique demonstrations and Q&A. No equipment is needed for this class. Intermediate winemakers are welcome and encouraged to ask questions and share their own experiences beyond the basics during the Q&A, for the benefit of all attendees.

After class, if you'd like to dive into the process, have a chat with our staff about a basic equipment kit as well as fruit processing equipment rental.

About your teacher: Roger and Mary Cox first started to make wine in the late 70s. Grapes were hard to come by so fruit wines were the order of the day. The few kit wines that were available were not of great quality. They planted some grape vines and quickly discovered the challenges of grapes in western Washington.

They took a break during the mid-90s and early 2000s. Since then, when they returned to winemaking, they have made over 120 5–6-gallon batches. There is a lot of fruit available and the kits are much better. Mary took up brewing beer as her “Covid hobby” making 36 batches so far.
